Ummul Momineen Hazrat Zainab bint-e-Khuzaimah رضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہا

Name and Lineage:

Her holy name is ‘SAYYIDAH ZAINAB BINT-E-KHUZAIMAHرضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہا and her title is “Ummul Masakeen”. Her genealogy is as follows:

“Sayyidah Zainab bint-e-Khuzaimah son of Abdullah son of Amr son of Abd Manaf son of Hilal son of Amir son of Sasata son of Muawiyah son of Bakr son of Hawazin son of Mansoor son of Ikrimah son of Khasfa son of Qais son of Aylan.”   

Honor of Ummul Momineen:

She was married to Hazrat Abdullah son of Jahashرضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ  first. When he was martyred in the battle of Uhud, the Holy Prophet صلی اللہ تعالٰی علیہ وسلم got married to her in three Hijri.           

Character and Peculiarities:

At the time of ignorance, she used to feed abundantly to the poor and needy people. Therefore, his title ‘Ummul Masakeen’ (mother of poor people) became famous.

Two of the blessed wives of the Holy Prophet و رضوان اللہ تعالٰی عنھنّ صلی اللہ تعالٰی علیہ وسلم got this honor that they passed away in the blessed life of the Holy Prophet صلی اللہ تعالٰی علیہ وسلم. The Holy Prophetصلی اللہ تعالٰی علیہ وسلم led their funeral prayer and buried them. In addition to them, all the holy wivesرضوان اللہ تعالٰی عنہنّ were alive at the time of the Holy Prophet’s (صلی اللہ تعالٰی علیہ وسلم) demise. After him, they remained alive for a few months or years. His first wife was Hazrat Khadijaرضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہا  who passed away in Makkah-tul-Mukarramah before emigrating. He could not forget her grief until lifetime. The second wife who passed away in his blessed life, was Hazrat Zainab bint-e-Khuzaimah رضی اللہ تعالٰی عنھا.

She was a respected woman of Quraish and such a generous woman that the poor and needy people always used to benefit from her charity and help. She was the one of holy wives of the Holy Prophetصلی اللہ تعالٰی علیہ وسلم who got this honor that the historians wrote her name with the title of ‘Ummul Masakeen’ in history pages due to her generosity and graciousness. Her lineage connects to the Holy Prophetصلی اللہ تعالٰی علیہ وسلم through some connection.

Seventy Sahaba-e-Kiramعلیھم الرّضوان  were martyred in the battle of Uhud. Many young women of Madinah were widowed and many children were orphaned and people of Madinah were grief-stricken. It was their excellence that they did not leave the patience. She was highly grieved on martyring of her husband and her eyes filled with tears but انا للہ وانا الیہ راجعون was on her tongue. After the battle of Uhud, the Holy Prophetصلی اللہ تعالٰی علیہ وسلم  consoled all the martyrs’ relatives by going to their homes. The Holy Prophetصلی اللہ تعالٰی علیہ وسلم  used to feel her grief. After completing the probationary period, the Holy Prophetصلی اللہ تعالٰی علیہ وسلم  sent her the message of Nikah for the purpose of her patronage. She accepted it happily and in three Hijri, she included in the blessed wives of the Holy Prophet صلی اللہ تعالٰی علیہ وسلم.  

Demise:

After the marriage with the Holy Prophetصلی اللہ تعالٰی علیہ وسلم , she remained alive only for two or three months and she passed away at the age of thirty years in the month of Rabi-ul-Akhir in 4 Hijri. She was buried in the cemetery of Jannat-ul-Baqi close to other holy wives of the Holy Prophet صلی اللہ تعالٰی علیہ وسلم. By mother side, she was the sister of Ummul Momineen Hazrat Maimoonaرضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہا .
