Character and Peculiarities:
He had the great expertise in the analysis of Hadiths and its meanings. Evaluation of his great knowledge can be assessed from his books ‘Umdat-al-Qari’ and ‘Sharah Bukhari’.
Sheikh Abul Ma’aniرحمۃ اللہ تعالٰی علیہ said, “Imam Badruddin رحمۃ اللہ تعالٰی علیہ was Allah’s argument on enemies and a despot on the bad-faith people. He wrote such explanation of Sahih Bukhari, whose example is not found. He had the greatest expertise in the knowledge and grace, piety, honesty, Fiqh and Hadith in his contemporaries.” (Preface: Umdat-al-Qari, 14)
He was given the designation of ‘Qaza’ without demand and he set an example of justice. Apart from that, he remained on the other important positions too, but he always continued teaching, writing and compiling books.
It is written in Bustan-al-Muhaddiseen, when Sultan got ‘Madrasa Muaiyidah’ built one of its minarets, which was made at the northern tower. It started falling down by being crooked. The king ordered, it should be rebuilt. Coincidentally, Hazrat Allama Ayniرحمۃ اللہ تعالٰی علیہ was teaching to the students under its shadow. Some misunderstanding were between Allama ibn-e-Hajar and Hafiz Ayniرحمۃ اللہ تعالٰی علیھما . Taking advantage of this opportunity, Allama ibn-e-Hajarرحمۃ اللہ تعالٰی علیہ wrote the following couplets and presented it to the King.
لجامع مولانا المؤید رونق منارتہ تزھو بالحسن وبالزین
تقول وقدمالت علیھم امھلو فلیس علٰی حسنی اضرمن العین
Translation: Jamia Muayyad is very famous and its minaret was so beautiful. While falling, it was saying that leave me because ‘Ayn’ (evil eye) is real harmful for my beauty. He hinted at ‘Ayn’. When Allama Ayniرحمۃ اللہ تعالٰی علیہ came to know about these couplets, he wrote the following couplets and sent it to Allam ibn-e-Hajarرحمۃ اللہ تعالٰی علیہ .
منارۃ کعروس الحسن قد حلیت وھدمھا بقضاء اللہ ولقدر
قالوا اصیبت بعین قلت ذا غلط مااوجب افۃ الحجر الاخسۃ الحجر
That minaret was beautiful like the bride, whose falling was the cause of Divine decree. People said, it affected by the evil eye. I say, they are wrong but the reason of its falling, was the weakness of ‘Hajar’.
He paid the advocacy right of Ahnaf in his book ‘Umdat-al-Qari Sharah Sahih Bukhari’. When Imam Bukhariرحمۃ اللہ تعالٰی علیہ objected to Hazrat Imam Azam Abu Hanifaرحمۃ اللہ تعالٰی علیہ by some people, he paid the right of defense of Imam Azam Abu Hanifa رحمۃ اللہ تعالٰی علیہ at such places. It was his great favor to Ahnaf. All the Scholars of Ahnaf must study this book. That is why, non-conformists made the accusation of his Sharah (explanation) impertinently, whereas It has not any connection with reality.
He passed away on the 4th Dhul Hijjah, 855 AH/ 28 December, 1451 AD and he was buried in the Madrasa courtyard. His blessed Shrine is in ‘Qahira’ (Egypt).
