Taj-ul-Arifeen Hazrat Khawaja Imam Ali Shah Naqshbandi رحمۃ اللہ تعالٰی علیہ
Name and Lineage:
His name is ‘SYED IMAM ALI SHAH’ and his respected father’s name is ‘Syed Haider Ali Shah
‘رحمۃ اللہ تعالٰی علیہ. He was belonged to a Syed family of ‘Samrah’ Iraq as well as he was relevant to the pure religious family. His respected father was a worshiper and the ascetic saintرحمۃ اللہ تعالٰی علیہ .
Date of Birth:
He was born at ‘Makan Sharif’ an area of Rattar Chattar village Gurdaspur district Panjab, India in 1211 AH/ 1796 AD.
Acquisition of Knowledge:
He got early education under the shadow of his respected father. His respected father passed away when he was a juvenile. He had studied some Persian books from Maulana Faqeerullah Dharamkotiرحمۃ اللہ تعالٰی علیہ at that time. For the purpose of acquiring further education, he studied current textbooks of that time and some medical books form Hafiz Muhammad Raza, Maulana Noor Ahmed Chisti and Maulana Jan Muhammad Chishtiعلیھم الرّحمہ . His mind was very enlightened during studying, that is why he was considered as the most intelligent and worthy student in all students. Once, Hazrat Shah Husainرحمۃ اللہ تعالٰی علیہ attentively looked at his face and while looking at the luminous blessings of Almighty Allah and his abilities, he asked him, which book do you study? He was about to give the answer that he (saintرحمۃ اللہ تعالٰی علیہ ) said read ‘Mathnawi Shareef’ because you can get the maturity in beliefs, cleanliness of the heart and strength of soul from studying that book. Afterwards, he started studying it and very next day, Hazrat Shah Husainرحمۃ اللہ تعالٰی علیہ called him. Then, he explained three couplets of Mathnawi Shareef in such way that the tremendous effect occurred on his heart. Later on, he started taken the lesson of Mathnawi Shareef regularly from Hazrat Shah Husain رحمۃ اللہ تعالٰی علیہ. He was counted in the renowned Scholars of that time. Rather, Scholars would refer to him to solve their issues.
Allegiance and Caliphate (Khilafat):
He became a Mureed of Hazrat Shah Husainرحمۃ اللہ تعالٰی علیہ at the age of sixteen years. He would take the lead in implementing upon the teachings of his Murshid.
Worship and Mystic Exercise:
He used to feel comfort in the worship and mystic exercise and he would busy in worshipping of Almighty Allah. It was his routine that after offering Isha prayer, he would go to the edge of a pond which is known as ‘Dholi Dhaab’ and it is situated two miles away from his home. He extremely got the peace of mind at that juncture and he would keep on sitting in the meditation-condition until Fajr prayer. In short, he stayed busy himself in the worship and mystic exercise. One day, Murshid-e-Kamil Hazrat Shah Husainرحمۃ اللہ تعالٰی علیہ said him, “If you get the attributes like Hazrat Jibrail, very friendly like Hazrat Ibrahim, purity like Hazrat Isa and love of the Holy Prophetصلوٰۃ اللہ علیھم اجمعین , watch out! Do not agree on all the aforementioned peculiarities; rather, desire more because much more blessings of Almighty Allah are ahead than above mentioned. Remain courage and do not bow down the daring head.
Character and Peculiarities:
He was a ‘Mustajab-ud-Da’waat’ (whose prays are accepted by Almighty Allah) and the miraculous saintرحمۃ اللہ تعالٰی علیہ . The well-known Scholars and great Mashaikh became his Mureed and they reached to the higher perfection-status. Faqih-ul-Hind Mufti Shah Muhammad Masood Royal Imam and orator of Jama Masjid Fatehpur Delhi and Hazrat Khawaja Ameer-ud-Deen and from them, Qutb-e-Rabbani Sher-e-Yazdani Hazrat Mian Sher Muhammad Sharaqpuri علیھم الرّحمہ are also included in them, who promoted and publicized the Naqshbandia order in the dimension of the continent.
The knowledge and practice, following the Sunnah, firmness on the Shariah, mystical training, completion of the faulty people, compassion and mercy on poor, good character, humility, forgiveness, selflessness, reward, generosity, ascetic, piety, worship and mystical exercise were his peculiarities. In short, he was a real inheritor of the Holy Prophetصلی اللہ تعالٰی علیہ وسلم and the true preacher of Islam.
Getting Honor in the Auspicious Court of the Holy Prophetصلی اللہ تعالٰی علیہ وسلم :
Maulana Ahmed Ali Dharamkotiرحمۃ اللہ تعالٰی علیہ said, when the fame of his greatness prevailed around the world and people came to know about an illuminating personality appeared in ‘Makan Shareef’ who looks at whomever, he illuminates their inward and outward status. Therefore, people began to come to him to get the benefits in large numbers. Hence, the great Scholars of that time became his Mureed. Many of them got the privilege of seeing the Holy Prophetصلی اللہ تعالٰی علیہ وسلم face to face. Under the direction of the Holy Prophetصلی اللہ تعالٰی علیہ وسلم , they became Mureed of Hazrat Imam Ali Shah Sahib رحمۃ اللہ تعالٰی علیہ and got the higher status. Lots of miracles appeared by him and people got the benefits through the blessings of his miracles.
He passed away on Asr prayer on 13th Shawwal-ul-Mukarram, 1282 AH/ 6 March, 1866 AD and his blessed Shrine is the resort of all at ‘Makan Shareef’, Gurdaspur district (India).
