Hazrat Syed Abdul Wahaab Gilani s/o Hazrat Ghaus-ul-Azamرحمۃ اللہ تعالٰی علیھما
Name and Lineage:
His name is ‘SYED ABDUL WAHAB GILANI’ and Kunyat is ‘Abu Abdullah’.His titlesare‘Saifuddin, Jamal-ul-Islam, Qudwatul Ulama and Fakhrul Mutakallimeen’. He was a son and the successor of Ghaus-ul-Azam Sayyiduna Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jilaniرضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ .
Date of Birth :
From when, he was in the abdomen of his mother, Ghaus-ul-Azamرضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ would not back towards him. He was born in Baghdad in Shaban-ul-Muazzam, 522 AH/ August, 1128 AD.
Acquisition of Knowledge:
He received the knowledge of Jurisprudence and Hadith from his respected father. Then, he heard the Ahadith from Abu Ghalib Ahmed son of Ali son of Ahmed known as Ibn-ul-Bana, Abul Qasim Saeed son of Al-Husainand Abu Bakr Muhammad son of Alzaghwaniعلیھم الرّحمہ.He traveled to the remote areas of the non-Arab countries to get the Islamic knowledge and after acquiring the benefitsfrom the great Scholars, he became a great proficient Scholar. Syed Sadullah Al-MoosaviAl-Razavi Al-Qadriرحمۃ اللہ تعالٰی علیہ also wrote some names of his teachers in his book ‘Bahr-ul-Sarair’:
“Abi Mansoor Abdur Rehman son of Muhammad son of Al-Wahid Etfiraz, Abi Al-Hasan Muhammad son of Ahmed son of Hurfa, Abi Al-Fazal Muhammad son of Umar-al-Armuvi andAbi-ul-Waqt Abdul Awwal son of Isa Al-Sabkhariعلیھم الرّحمہ etc.”
After completing Islamic sciences, he got busy in teaching intoMadrasa Saeediyah Ghousia Babul Azaj on behalf of his respected father in 543 AH. Many students became Scholar through his teachings and in the nick of time, people would remember him with these titles, “Fakhr-ul-Islam, Qudwat-ul-Ulama and Fakhr-ul-Mutakallimeen. It is fact that “بے علم نتواں را خدا شناخت”(i.e. the identification of Almighty Allah cannot be possible without knowledge.), in current time, the Successors of Mashaikh could not study the Shariah knowledge.Therefore, they are just living on the divine knowledge. Whereas, Ghaus-ul-Azam andhis blessed children spent their entire life in learning and in teaching the teachings of Mustafaصلی اللہ تعالٰی علیہ وسلم.
Allegiance and Caliphate (Khilafat):
Huzoor-e-Ghaus-e-Azamرضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ granted him the caliphate (khilafat)at the age of nineteen years in 541 AH and his spiritual allegiance was with the Holy Prophetصلی اللہ تعالٰی علیہ وسلم .
Character and Peculiarities:
He hadthe inward and outward knowledge. He was an elder son, Mureed, great Khalifa and the Successor of Huzoor-e-Ghaus-e-Azam Abdul Qadir Jilaniرضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ . After completing the current knowledge of that time, he remained busy with ‘Aurad-o-Wazaif’ (incantations) for four years. In the neck of time, he reached to the higher levels through the attention of Hazrat Ghaus-e-Azamرضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ. He was a great Jurisprudence, Muhaddith, Scholar,ascetic, worshiper, articulate speaker, Mufti and the orator.There was none of his brother like him, towhom could be preferred on him.He was a kind, generous, tolerant, humble, outspoken, and writer too. He used to pay the respect for the Scholars and pious people.He was a very intelligent, pious and he had agreat honor and excellence and he owned the absolute miracles,praiseworthy dignity, cheerful secrets, clear visions, great circumstances, precious biography, miracle, true speaking, high courage and high ranks etc.He had the great expertise in teachings. He wasthe best ways in facts, great method in heights, step forward in the status of earlier Saints, surpassing towards the significant destinations, perseverancein the critical situations and he had the greatinformation in the knowledge of Shariah. He had the tremendous commandin exposing the facts of verses and describing the meaning of observations.
He was one of those people,whom was sent among people by Almighty Allah and He جل جلالہput his awe in their chest, and his love in their hearts and bestowed the general popularity in the view of public, similarly he was granted the authority in the world. He was also granted the power in the sainthood and the facts of things were changed for him as well as habits were converted. Unseen things were continued on his blessed tongue and the miracles were shown by his blessed hands. Wisdoms were also exposedby his tongue and he was given the titles ofQudwatus Salikeen, Hujjat-ul-Sadiqeen and the Imam of Ahle Tareeq-o-Ahle Haq etc. After the demise of Huzoor-e-Ghaus-e-Azamرضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ, he was the first saint who laid the first foundation of ‘Rushd-o-Hidayat’ (to guide towards the right path)among the children of Ghaus-ul-Azamرضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ and also explained the way of the predecessors.
He passed away in 25 Shawwal-ul-Mukarram, 593 AH/ 11 September, 1197 AD and his blessed Shrine is at ‘Maqbara-e-Halbiyah’ in Baghdad.
