Sayyid-ul-Ulama Hazrat Allama Mufti Shah Aal-e-Mustafa Syed Mian Marehraviرحمۃ اللہ تعالٰی علیہ
Name and lineage:
His lineage is Sayyid-ul-Ulama, Syed Aal-e-Mustafa son of Syed Aal-e-‘Aba son of Syed Shah Husain son of Syed Shah Muhammad Haider رحمۃ اللہ تعالٰی علیہم.
Date of Birth:
He was born at Marehra (India) on Wednesday, on 25th Rajab-ul-Murajjab 1333 AH/ 9th June 1915 AD.
When he reached at the age of four years, four months and four days, his Bismillah ceremony was begun with the handwritten-Bismillah by Hazrat Ghaus-e-Azam Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jilani رضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ, which is the practice of Marehra family. He completed memorizing the Holy Quran at the little age of eight years from his respected mother, Hafiz Ashiq Ali Sahib Barkati and Hafiz Saleemuddin Sahibعلیھم الرّحمہ. He learnt the basic book of Persian from his respected mother and he studied the current books of that time from his respected maternal grandfather and respected uncle Syed Shah Aulad-e-Rasool Muhammad Mian Sahib علیھم الرّحمہ. He completed remaining education from Huzoor Sadr-us-Shariah Mufti Amjad Ali Azami رحمۃ اللہ تعالٰی علیہ at Ajmer Shareef, India. Along with the religious education he gained worldly education. He got diploma degree in Hindi and Greek medicine and D.I.M.S (Diploma in Indian Medi-D.I.M.S. From 1956 cine and Surgery.) in surgery from ‘Bahra Tayyiba College, Aligarh Muslim University.
Allegiance and Caliphate (Khilafat):
He became a Mureed from his respected maternal grandfather Huzoor Syed Shah Abul Qasim Ismail Hasan Shah Ji Mianرحمۃ اللہ تعالٰی علیہ and he also got the Khilafat from him.
Character and Peculiarities:
A glorious and far-sighted personality, sagacious orator, true speaker, knower of right (Haq), seer of right, recognizer of right, fact-describer, embodiment of truth, selflessness and Haider-e-Karrarرضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ , telling truth and the soft-spoken attributes were the part of whose personality who was Hazrat Syed-ul-Ulama Shah Aal-e-Mustafa علیہ الرّحمہ. Simultaneously, he was a great Muhaddith, exegete, Mufti, Naat poet, expert physician, great thinker, Islamic politician, a skilled organizer and he was the perfect Wali (a friend of Almighty Allah), and such person who worships at night.
The commentator of Bukhari MuftiMuhammad Shareef-ul-Haq Amjadiرحمۃ اللہ تعالٰی علیہ said, “He used to explain such complicated-scholarly debates in his speech that intellectual people would get stunned and they had to confess to his abilities, that the title of ‘Sayyid-ul-Ulama’ has been devised just for him. His heart was filled with the treasure of knowledge. He was a ‘Imam-ul-Munazreen’ in debate, ‘Syed-ul-Mutakallimeen’ in conversation, recognized king in writing and speech and he had complete control on his speech. To speech in different style and topic was ordinary for him.” (Huzoor Syed-ul-Ulama, P. 12)
This great scholar of Islam passed away from this mortal world in the night between 10th and 11th Jamadi-us-Thani 1394 AH/ 1st July 1974 AD, on Monday, at the age of 60. His shrine is still the source of blessings at Marehra Shareef, India.
