Hazrat Imam Zain-ul-Abideenرضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ
Name and Lineage:
His name is‘SYED ALI’and Kunyat is‘Abu Muhammad and Abul Hasan’. His titlesare‘Sajjad, Sayyid-ul-Sajideen, Zain-ul-Abideen and Ameen’.His genealogy is given below:
“Hazrat Imam Ali Zain-ul-Abideen son of Sayyid-ush-Shuhada Imam Husain son of Ameer-ul-Momineen Hazrat Aliعلیھم الرّضوان .”His respected mother’s name was Shehr Bano daughter of Yazdegerd.
Date of Birth:
He was born in Madina-tul-Munawwarah on Thursday in 5 Shaban-ul-Muazzam, 38 AH/ January, 659 AD.
A Brief Biography:
His face was similar to his respected grandfather Ameer-ul-MomineenHazrat Ali رضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ and he received training under his supervisionfor two years.When Hazrat Abdullah son of Abbas رضی اللہ تعالٰی عنھماused to look at him so he would say, “مرحبا یا حبیب ابن الحبیب”(welcome! O beloved son of the beloved). Hazrat Saeed son of Musayyibرضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ said, “Never did I seea pious man like him.”Ibn Shahab Zuhriرضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ said, “I did not find more excellent Jurisprudence than him.”(Tabaqat-ul-Huffaz). Imam Malikرضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ said, “He was the one of blessedness people.” Ibn Abi Shebaرضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ said, “All the correct and greater credentials are those whichZuhri, narrated to him,he narrated to his respected father and he narrated to Hazrat Ali علیھم الرّضوان.”(Tabaqat-ul-Huffaz). Ibn-e-Saad رضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہsaid, “he was the one of Tabi’een(the Successors to the Holy Prophet’s companionsصلی اللہ تعالٰی علیہ وسلم و علیھم الرّضوان) and he was an authoritative, secure,the great narrator of many Hadith, honorable,dignified, piety, worshiper and God fearing manجل جلالہ. He was Abul Aimma and Sayyid-al-Tabi’een. He was present in the event of Karbala but he could not participate in fighting due to illness. He gave up the delightful world. After the event of Karbala,nobody did not see him laughing. When he used to recall that grievous event,he would burst into tears. Similarly, when he would get ready to offer Salah by performing Wudu (ablution), his face would turn yellow and his body would start trembling.
He used to offer one thousand Rakats of the supererogatory prayer in a day and night(hence, he was called ‘Sajjad’).He would fast during the dayand he would eat just a piece of bread at evening.Heonce used to recite the complete Quran at night. He would secretly give the charity and he would distribute the charity to the deserving people by carrying the weight of flour and bread on his blessed back, even that, the black stains would make on his back.
He passed away in Madina-tul-Munawwarah on18th Muharram-ul-Haram, 94 AH/ October, 712 AD and he was buried next to Hazrat Imam Hasan Mujtaba رضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہat Jannat-ul-Baqi.
