Qutb-e-Alam Hazrat Fariduddin Masood Ganj-e-Shakar علیہ الرّحمہ
Name and Lineage:
His name is ‘MASOOD’ and his titles are ‘Fareed, Ganj-e-Shakar, Qutb-e-Alam and Zohd-ul-Ambiya’. His respected father’s name is Sheikh Jamaluddin and his genealogical connection joins to the blessed genealogy of Hazrat Farooq-e-Azamرضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ through the several connections. According to the author of ‘Sairul Musannifeen’, his respected father was a nephew of Sultan Mehmood Ghaznaviرحمۃ اللہ تعالٰی علیہ . (Bahar-e-Chisht, P.87)
Date of Birth:
He was born at Kotwal village (current name is Kothe wala), district Multan in 574 AH/ 1179 AD.
Acquisition of Knowledge:
He got the perfection in all the Islamic knowledge. When he met to Hazrat Qutbuddin Bakhtiyar Kakiرحمۃ اللہ تعالٰی علیہ in the student life so he showed the desire of worship and mystical exercise to him, he told, “get the perfection in knowledge first because a worshiper without knowledge is a jester Satan.” (Akabireen-e-Chisht, P. 83)
Allegiance and Caliphate (Khilafat):
He took an oath of the allegiance on the blessed hand of Hazrat Khawaja Qutbuddin Bakhtiyar Kakiرحمۃ اللہ تعالٰی علیہ and he was granted the Khilafat by the order of Hazrat Khawaja Gharib Nawazرحمۃ اللہ تعالٰی علیہ. Besides that, he also got the beneficence from Hazrat Sultan-ul-Hind and Hazrat Sheikh Shahabuddin Soharwardi رحمۃ اللہ تعالٰی علیھما.
He was unique in the mystical exercise, worship, pledge, piety, abdication and isolation. He used to dislike fame and he would love to be engaged in the remembrance of Almighty Allah. He was an embodiment of the toleration, forbearance, contentment, trust in Almighty Allah, piety, righteousness, love and fervor. He always used to give a lesson from the book ‘Awarif-ul-Maarif’ written by Hazrat Sheikh Shahabuddin Soharwardi رحمۃ اللہ تعالٰی علیہ. The element of finesse and purity was dominant in his nature. He would always emphasize to earn the legitimate livelihood regularly. Rather, he believed that the legitimate livelihood (Rizq-e-Halal) is the sixth fundamental part of Islam. He completely kept on engrossing in loving and following the Sunnah of the Holy Prophetصلی اللہ تعالٰی علیہ وسلم . He would offer the prayer and fast with punctuality and he would also instruct his Mureeds to do the same. He used to say that nobody cannot reach to the spiritual destination without following the Shariah. Whenever the blessed name of the Holy Prophetصلی اللہ تعالٰی علیہ وسلم is mentioned in front of him, he would bitterly weep. Once he listened about the demise incident of the Holy Prophetصلی اللہ تعالٰی علیہ وسلم , he had such a deep sigh that a state of unconsciousness overcame him. After long time, he came back to his sense. Then, he said that when the pride of humanity the Holy Prophetصلی اللہ تعالٰی علیہ وسلم went from this mortal world so what is our status? Therefore, it does not suit us that we desire for living and we should lift up the curtain of negligence. We should worry about preparing of the hereafter.
Maulana Badruddin Ishaqرحمۃ اللہ تعالٰی علیہ said, “I was the especial servant of him. He would say to me everything whatever he wanted. I spent my entire life in his service but I never saw the difference between his solitude and multitude and his inward and outward status was the same. (Sairul Auliyaعلیھم الرّحمہ , P. 65)
He passed away on 5th Muharram-ul-Haram, 664 AH/ October, 1265 AD and his blessed Shrine is the resort of all in Pakpattan.
