Her first Nikah was performed with Utbah son of Abu Lahab but before the departure of bride, Surah-e-Lahab was revealed and in this anger, Utbah divorced her. After that, the Holy Prophetصلی اللہ تعالٰی علیہ وسلم married her to Hazrat Usman-e-Ghaniرضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ . Both husband and wife migrated to Habsha then Madina and they both awarded the title of ‘Sahib-ul-Hijratain’ (the ones who migrated twice).
The Holy Prophetصلی اللہ تعالٰی علیہ وسلم said, “احسن زوجین رآہما انسان رقیۃ و زوجہا عثمان” the most beautiful couple that was seen, is the couple of Sayyidah Ruqayyah and Usmanرضی اللہ تعالٰی عنھما . (Al-Asaba 8th volume, P.91) During the days of Battle of Badr, she was ill. Therefore, the Holy Prophetصلی اللہ تعالٰی علیہ وسلم ordered to Usman Ghani رضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ to stay in Madina to look after her and stopped him to go to the Battle of Badr. When Hazrat Zaid son of Harisرضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ got to Madina with a good news of the absolute victory in the Battle of Badr, at the same day Hazrat Ruqayyah رضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہا passed away in the age of twenty years. The Holy Prophetصلی اللہ تعالٰی علیہ وسلم could not come in her funeral prayer because of the Battle of Badr. Although, Hazrat Usman Ghani رضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ did not participate in Battle of Badr but Rasool Allahجل جلالہ و صلی اللہ تعالٰی علیہ وسلم counted him in the Mujahideen of Battle of Badr and granted him the booty equal to Mujahideen. She gave birth to a son who was named Abdullah and after demise of his respected mother, he passed away in 4th Hijri. The blessed grave of Hazrat Ruqayyahرضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہا is at Jannat-ul-Baqi.
