Ameer-ul-Momineen Hazrat Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddiq

Ameer-ul-Momineen Hazrat Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddiq

Name and Linage:

The real name of Ameer-ul-Mo’mineen was ABDULLAH, kunyat was Abu Bakr, and his two titles are very famous ‘Siddiq and Atiq’. His genealogy is as follows:

"Abdullah son of Usman son of Aamir son of Amr son of Ka‘b son of Sa‘d son of Taym son of Murrah son of Ka‘b. At the link of Ka‘b (father of Murrah), his family linage connects to the linage of Nabi-e-Kareem صلّی اللہ تعالٰی علیہ وسلّم. His mother’s name was Umm-ul-Khair Salma daughter of Sakhr son of Aamir son of Umr son of Ka‘b son of Sa‘d son of Taym son of Murrah son of Ka‘b."

Embracing Islam:

Hazrat Sayyiduna Ibrahim Nakh‘ee says: “اوّل من اسلم ابو بکر الصدّیق”

i.e. “The first who embraced Islam is Hazrat Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddiq  رضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ.” (Sunan Tirmidhi Shareef, Hadith no 3756)

Excellence and Qualities:

Almighty Allah Says in the Holy Quran:

الا تنصروہ فقد نصرہ اللہ اذ اخرجہ الذین کفرو ثانی اثنین اذ ھما فی لغار اذ یقول لصاحبہ لا تحزن ان اللہ معنا فانزل اللہ سکینتہ علیہ۔

“If you do not help him (the beloved messenger), then Allah did help him when (due to the mischiefs of the non-believers) he had to migrate with only two souls when they were in the cave and he said to his friend ‘do not grieve, Allah is with us’. Then, Allah sent down His peace on him”. (Surah Al-Taubah, verse no 40, Chapter no 10)

This particular verse interprets the two beliefs. The one is the Sahabiyyat (companionship of the Holy Prophetصلی اللہ تعالٰی علیہ وسلم) of Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddiq رضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ, which is absolutely right as per the order of the Holy Quran and its rejection is Kufr (infidelity), and the second is, the status of Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddiq رضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ is the biggest after the status of Nabi-e-Kareem صلّی اللہ تعالٰی علیہ وسلّم, and Allah has announced him the second of the Holy Prophet صلّی اللہ تعالٰی علیہ وسلّم. Therefore, Nabi-e-Kareem صلّی اللہ تعالٰی علیہ وسلّم made him the Imam at his ‘Musallah’ (prayer mat). It is also known that the caliphate after the Holy Prophet صلی اللہ تعالٰی علیہ وسلم,  is for Hazrat Siddiq-e-Akbarرضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ . He had been chosen as the first Khalifah by the orders of Allah عَزَّ وَجَلَّ then who can dare to announce him the third or fourth. He is the second in the grave and he will be the second on the resurrection day. i.e.

The renowned Sahabi Hazrat Abu Hurairah  رضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہnarrates the words of Nabi-e-Kareem صلّی اللہ تعالٰی علیہ وسلّم that “Whoever gave me any favor, I have paid his favor, but the benevolences of Abu Bakr are such whose reward Almighty Allah will bestow him on the day of resurrection.” (Sunan-al-Tirmidhi, Hadith 3681)

The Caliphate (Khilafat) of Siddiq-e-Akbar

Umm-ul-Momineen Hazrat Ayesha Siddiqah رضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہا quotes the words of the Holy Prophet صلّی اللہ تعالٰی علیہ وسلّم which she narrated just before the demise of the Holy Prophet صلی اللہ تعالٰی علیہ وسلم , “call Abu Bakr and his son so that I could write them the will (of caliphate), because I had fear that lest some other desirous person should not claim that he is more deserving person for this status, because Almighty Allah and all the Muslims would not be happy with anyone else except Abu Bakr”. (Sahih Muslim, Hadith no 2387)

It is narrated by Sayyiduna Jabir Bin Mat’am  رضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ that, “once a lady came into the blessed court of Nabi-e-Kareem صلّی اللہ تعالٰی علیہ وسلّم due to her need, but Nabi-e-Kareem صلّی اللہ تعالٰی علیہ وسلّم said to her, to come again next time. She asked him, ‘O Rasool Allah عزوجل و صلی اللہ تعالٰی علیہ وسلم! I would come next time and if I do not find you, then? Actually, she wanted to confirm if he passes away, then. At that time, Nabi-e-Kareem صلّی اللہ تعالٰی علیہ وسلّم responded her that ‘if you do not find me then you can go to Abu Bakr he would resolve your issue”. (Sahih Bukhari, Hadith no 3659)

The Preeminence of Siddiq-e-Akbar:

Imam Bukhari رحمۃ اللہ تعالٰی علیہ narrated to Hazrat Muhammad son of Hanafiyyah son of Ameer-ul-Mo’mineen Hazrat Ali رضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ:

”قال: قلت یا ابی، ایّ الناس خیر بعد النبی صلی اللہ تعالٰی علیہ وسلم؟ قال: ابو بکر، قال: قلت: ثم من؟ قال: عمر“

“Once, I asked to my respected father Ameer-ul-Mo’mineen Hazrat Aliرضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ  that, after Nabi-e-Kareem صلّی اللہ تعالٰی علیہ وسلّم, who is the most prominent person? he responded, Hazrat Abu Bakrرضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ , I asked again and after him, he responded, Hazrat Umarرضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ ”. (Sahih Bukhari, Hadith no 3671)

This is the consensus belief of Ahl-e-Sunnat-wal-Jama’at that, “After Prophets and Messengers علیھم السّلام,  Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddiq رضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ   is the best person in men, Jinns and Angels, i.e. all the creation of Almighty Allah, after him, Hazrat Farooq-e-Azam, then Hazrat Usman Ghani and then Hazrat Ali رضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہم اجمعین”. (Bahar-e-Shariat, 1st volume, the chapter of Imamat, page, 241)

Denier of the Khilafat-e-Sheikhain is Infidel:

The consensus of all the Sahaba-e-Kiram is on the Khilafat of Sheikhain Karemain علیھم الرّضوان. Therefore, the denier of their Khilafat is excluded from Islam. (Bahar-e-Shariat, 1st volume, the chapter of Imamat, page 253)

The great scholar Ala Hazrat Imam Ahmed Raza Khan Barelvi رحمۃ اللہ تعالٰی علیہ writes with the reference to “Wajeez” (a book written by Imam Kurdari, published in Egypt, volume 3 page 318):

”من انکر خلافۃ ابی بکر رضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ فھو کافر فی الصحیح ومن انکر خلافۃ عمر رضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ فھو کافر فی الاصح۔“

“The denier of the caliphate of Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddiq (رضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ) is Kafir (infidel), and this is true. In the same way the denier of the caliphate of Hazrat Umar Farooq رضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ is also Kafir, and it is true”. (Fatawa e Razawiyya, volume 14, page 251)

Demise:

“Hazrat Sayyiduna Siddiq-e-Akbar رضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ made a will that, placing my funeral in front of the Roza-e-Rasoolصلی اللہ تعالٰی علیہ وسلم , and to say that “السّلام علیک یا رسول اللہ  (جل جلالہ و ﷺ) ” O Rasool Allah (جل جلالہ و ﷺ) ! Abu Bakr رضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ  is present at your blessed Astana. if the door opens itself then take me inside otherwise bury me in Jannat-ul-Baqi the graveyard of Muslims.”

According to his will, his funeral was brought into the blessed court of Nabi-e-Kareem صلّی اللہ تعالٰی علیہ وسلّم and Salam was presented in the blessed court. Then, it was requested that, Abu Bakr is present here in your blessed court, the lock of the door opened itself and the voice came from inside that “اد خلوا الحبیب الی الحبیب فان الحبیب الی الحبیب مشتاق” i.e. ‘let a friend meet his friend, a friend is eager to meet his friend.” (Tafseer-e-Kabeer, volume 10, page 167, Daar-e-Ihyaa-al-Turath al-Arabi, Beirut)

On 22nd Jamadi-us-Thani 13th Hijri, 23rd August 634 AD, on Monday, between Maghrib and Isha Prayers, this great leader of Islam passed away from this world at the age of 63. His caliphate period remained for 2 years., 3 months and 10 days.
