Excellence of Miswak in the light of Hadiths

Use Miswak after Wake up

It is narrated by Hazrat Sayyiduna Huzaifah (رضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ), whenever the Prophet (صلّی اللہ تعالٰی علیہ وسلّم) got up at night, he used to clean his mouth with Miswak. (Sahih Bukhari, vol. 1, p.58)

 

Miswak in Tahajjud

It is narrated in a Hadith, whenever the Prophet (صلّی اللہ تعالٰی علیہ وسلّم) got up for Tahajjud prayer he used to clean his mouth (and teeth) with Miswak. (Sahih Bukhari, vol. 2, p.51, Hadith 1136)

 

Kindness with Ummah

It is narrated in a Hadith, if I had not found it a hardship for my Ummah, I would order them to use Miswak for every Wudu. (Sahih Bukhari, vol. 1, p. 307, Hadis 887)

 

Stress on Using Miswak

It is narrated by Hazrat Sayyiduna Anas (رضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ), the Noble Prophet (صلّی اللہ تعالٰی علیہ وسلّم) said: I stress upon you to use Miswak (tooth-stick). (Sahih Bukhari)

 

1st Thing on entering House

Hazrat Shareeh Bin Haani (رضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ) narrates that I asked Hazrat Aisha (رضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہا): "What was the first thing which the Holy Prophet (صلّی اللہ تعالٰی علیہ وسلّم) would do when he entered his house?" She replied: "He would use Miswak (tooth-stick)." (Sahih Muslim, p.722)

 

Miswak and Fitrah

Ummul Mumineen Hazrat Sayyidah Aisha Siddiqa (رضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہا) narrates that the Prophet (صلّی اللہ تعالٰی علیہ وسلّم) said: Ten things are from the Fitrah:

  1. To trim the moustache
  2. To clip the nails
  3. To wash between the toes
  4. To lengthen the beard
  5. To perform Miswak
  6. To put water into the nostrils (cleansing the nostrils)
  7. To remove the hair from under the arms
  8. To remove the pubic hair
  9. To perform Istinja (to clean oneself after answering the call of nature)
  10. To rinse the mouth

(Sunan-e-Nasai, vol. 8, p.126, Hadith 5040)

 

Urge to Use Miswak

It is narrated in a Hadith, I have indeed urged you with regard to the Miswak. (Sunan-e-Nasai, vol. 1, p.11)

 

Excellence of Miswak

It is narrated in a Hadith, Miswak is a means of the purification of your mouths and the pleasure of your Rabb. (Sunan Nisai, vol. 1, p. 10)

 

Four Things

Hazrat Syedna Abu Ayub Ansari (رضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ) narrates that the Prophet (صلّی اللہ تعالٰی علیہ وسلّم) said: Four things are amongst the practices (Sunnah) of the Holy Prophets of Islam:

1) Haya,

2) Perfume,

3) Miswak and

4) Nikah

Excellence of Miswak

It is narrated in a Hadith, to perform 2 Rakats after performing Miswak is more exalted than 70 Rakats which is performed without performing Miswak. (Musnad-e-Ahmad, vol. 10, p. 141, Hadis 26400)

 

Miswak and Fasting Person

 It is narrated by Hazrat Aisha (رضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہا), the Noble Prophet (صلّی اللہ تعالٰی علیہ وسلّم) said: It is goodness of Fasting Person to use Miswak. (Sunan-ul-Kubra, vol. 4, p.452)
